Suika - Non-Seasonal Watermelon

I remember going to Suika years and years ago for dinner, and didn't really find anything special. It was pretty quiet and empty too. Then I dropped my friend there a couple times to drink, so I thought it had turned into a drinking place. I haven't gone back for a while till recently and was pleasantly surprised ! I'm not sure if they had a change in operations/management/ownership, but both the food and the vibe are totally different from before !

As we walked in, we saw many big groups and most celebrating birthdays. It seemed like a restaurant that's very suitable for a fun gathering. We were the rare two people group and were thus led to sit at the bar. Because it was full of celebrations, we felt so under-dressed ! All the girls there were so groomed, and I emphasize, ALL the girls there were dressed to impress, literally. And I was dress to ... errr... eat.

Like Guu, they have a special izakaya menu and a regular menu. Everything looked delicious so I was glad that everything came in small portions. Suika seems like a combination of Guu and Kingyo - it's fun and delicate at the same time.

What I really like about Suika is their drinks cart ! Look ! This is so cute ! They have all the alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks on the same cart, being pushed to your table by your server for you to choose. Reminds me of those fine dining restaurant's dessert or cheese carts. I was pretty impressed and couldn't help but choose something. So I picked the watermelon soda drink being mixed with real watermelon puree. It was very refreshing and bubbly.

Actually, I quite like sitting at sushi bars in Japanese restaurants, especially those traditional sashimi/sushi restaurants. You not only get to see your chef make your food, but also get to serve faster. There were also little games on the sushi bar like the Rubik's Cube, which I failed to solve.

I had to order the Suika Box. I love those Japanese bentos. To be honest, most of the options are not that tasty, but I JUST LOVE THE OPTIONS. It's like a box of chocolate hahaha, you never know what you are gonna get. This box is not too bad, there was octopus, pickled veggies, cucumbers, lotus roots, tofu, etc. It was not the best, but not bad at all.

Fried Corn
Mentaiko Udon - My must order item !
Chicken Karaage
Toro Pressed Sushi
Everything was very delicious and I'm glad I gave Suika another chance. The only item I won't order again is the Suika Box, but the novelty made me really happy :)
